| Farmart Centre holds an interesting variety of farms that welcome visitors everyday, Singapore's only farmer's market. It is a farmer's showcase featuring Singapore's only Bee Farm, Kois, Quail eggs, Orchid, Ornamental Fish Farm, Live Lobsters, Crabs, DIY water fountains and many more. It also has aquatic plants, farm essentials and exotic meats like crocodile, quail, ostrich, venison and bullfrog. A cafe and food kiosk will help you spend hours here, learning and shopping for produce. Children can interact with animals at the animal corner which include goats, frogs, tortoises, fishes and other small animals.
Farmart Centre occupies 2 1/2-ha compound, about the size of four football fields, located atop a hill along Sungei Tengah Road, it opened to the public in year 2001.
The Bullfrog (picture right) is the largest frog in North America. The females grow larger than the males, up to eight inches. Bullfrogs vary in color, from dark olive to pale green, and from white to cream underneath. They often have dark gray mottling (splotches) on their back legs. The bullfrog is a cold blooded amphibian and prefers warm weather. It will hibernate during the cold. As an amphibian, the frog can exist both in the water and out of the water.
A bullfrog may bury itself in the mud and construct a small cave-like structure under the water for the winter. Although they are air breathers, they can stay underwater for long periods, breathing through the skin. Bullfrogs are voracious eaters (they eat a lot), and will eat just about any animal they can swallow. These include insects, crayfish, worms, minnows, other frogs (even Bullfrogs), small turtles, snakes, baby birds, and small mammals. They are most active at night. Bullfrogs help humans by eating large amounts of pesky insects, such as mosquitoes. Many people eat frog legs, which are almost always from Bullfrogs.
Packaged Farm Tours are available for selection and allow visitors to gain more knowledge about the different farms in Singapore. Visit Farmart Centre website for more information.
