The DragonFruit Farm is located in Lim Chu Kang.

HistoryDragon Fruit or Pitaya (or Pitahaya or Strawberry Pear) is the fruits of several cactus species. Native to Mexico and Central and South America, these vine-like epiphytic cacti are also cultivated in Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia. To eat the fruit, serve chilled and cut in half. Scoop out the flesh and seeds much like a kiwi fruit. Although the tiny pitaya seeds are eaten with the flesh, the seeds are indigestible.

The fruit comes in three types all with leathery and slightly leafy skin:

Hylocereus Undatus-White Flesh and Red Skin
Hylocereus Polyrhizus-Reddish Purple Flesh & Red Skin
Selenocereus Megalanthus-White Flesh & Yellow Skin

Anthocynine, an enzyme found in Dragon Fruit is a powerful antioxidant, which is 10 times more powerful than Vitamin A. Dragon Fruit, if consumed regularly, can help fight against asthma and cough and neutralise heavy metal toxics in our bodies and reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure.

The French have introduced Dragon Fruit to Vietnam more than 100 years ago and were originally grown for the kings and wealthy families in Vietnam.

The Reds (Hylocereus polyrhizus) were tastier and sweeter than the white. Needless to say, there were also more expensive. The red fruit are high in lycopene which is a natural antioxidant that is known to fight cancer and heart disease.

The Dragon Fruit only flowers at night and can be up to 14 inches in diameter. The flowers are often called Moonflower or Queen of the Night. The flowers are very fragrant and are used in Mexico to perfume the night air in their courtyards.
