Aero-Green
Technology is the first in Asia to adapt aeroponics
technology to grow temperate vegetable commercially. Vegetables
grown on the farm includes butterhead lettuce, cherry tomatoes,
Batavia, egg plants, Sweet Basil and many others. Not only vegetables
are grown here, but also fruits and herbs. This 5.3ha farm is located
opposite Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
History of Aero-Green
- Aeroponics, which means growing in air as opposed to organic (soil),
enables the growth of temperate vegetables in equatorial Singapore.
Nutrients are sprayed directly onto the suspended roots of the plants
and vegetables. This farm produces some 500 kg of pesticide-free
vegetables a day for local consumption. Aero-green Technology (Singapore)
Pte Ltd was conceptualized and set up in 1995 with a modest S$12
million. Aero-Green's aeroponics growing system is developed by
Assoc. Prof. Lee Sing Kong of the Nanyang Technological University.
Aero-Green clinched the prestigious Asian Innovation Award 1998
(agriculture-bronze), presented by the Far Eastern Economic Review
& CNBC and other awards too. The world's first lettuce juice
- Lettucinno was developed by Aero-Green. Most of their products
are distributed to local supermarkets such as NTUC, Cold Storage,
Carrefour and Isetan.
